Health & Safety

Health & Safety

The safety of our products is something we take very seriously indeed. Nothing is more important to us than the well-being and health of our customers and their children.

All our products are baby safe and have the symbolRoHS on them, this assures you that the product has met the requirements for EU countries. For further details on the CE mark, click here.

All our suppliers meet the following safety requirements as an essential process of maintaining our standards:

ISO 9001 ISO 9001 ICTI ICTI
EN 71 EN 71 RoHS RoHS

ISO 9001

The ISO 9001 standard is an emerging global standard for product and process quality, adopted by 91 countries which comprise the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO). ISO 9001 is best known to European countries who use the certification as a means of identifying companies dedicated to providing a customer with the best product and service possible. Our suppliers have always emphasised their quality through a continuous improvement program complementing other quality initiatives. Achieving ISO 9001 certification further demonstrates commitment to a consistent level of quality recognised under International standards.

According to ISO assessors, the certification process is rigorous and only a minority of the applicants who strive to become certified are successful on their first audit. Our suppliers are amongst this minority of organisations that passed the required certification audit on the first assessment, demonstrating their consistent emphasis towards a high quality standard.

Certification is an ongoing process and our suppliers undergo regular internal and external audits by third party ISO assessors in order to retain their certification. The ISO certification complements the quality program by establishing an externally verified unbiased process of self-monitoring and problem-solving.

Its initial focus is in China, where 70 percent of the world’s toy volume is manufactured. Its intent is to provide a single, fair, thorough and consistent program to monitor toy factories’ compliance with ICTI’s Code of Business Practices (the “Code”).

EN71

The UK Toys (Safety) Regulations applies to most toys - that is products and materials designed or clearly intended for use in play by children under 14 years of age. The requirements relate to physical and mechanical properties; flammability; hygiene; radioactivity; chemical and electrical properties and include the need for a technical file which confirms that the toys compliance has been verified by the use of the appropriate test / assessment procedures. In addition to the above, other Directives may apply to specific toy types - such as the Electromagnetic Compatibility Directive.

RoHS

The RoHS Directive stands for "the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment". This Directive bans the placing on the EU market of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than agreed levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants.

This safety requirement is only applicable to those products containing electrical or electronic equipment.
